Installing Mandriva
From Mandrivausers Wiki
Installing Mandriva is much like installing any other distribution of Linux. It can either be done from an install CD/DVD or from a live CD. Where possible, all the instructions during the install are presented with a point-and-click GUI, but where this is not possible, a text-only install procedure is also available. See the walkthrough link below for examples of what the graphical install looks like.
[edit] Preparation
Before installing Mandriva, you need to decide whether Mandriva will be the only operating system on the machine, or whether it will be shared with one or more other systems. This will determine how to go about partitioning the hard drive(s) - see dual-booting for details on how for example both Windows and Mandriva can be used on the same machine. The Mandriva install process can set up the partitions, but it is a good idea to shrink existing partitions beforehand to make room.
Next step is to obtain a CD or DVD for installation. This can be bought or downloaded for free. Note that some of the CDs are live CDs (which means you can run them from CD without installing) and some are just for installing. There are also various combinations of language packs available on different disks, and some use Gnome instead of the default KDE. Make sure you get the one you want.
If you have downloaded a CD or DVD, it will come in the form of an ISO image. It is a good idea to verify the download (see checking ISOs) before burning it. When you burn such an ISO, make sure you burn it as an image (see burning ISOs).
The final preparation step of course, as before making any major change to your system, is to back up everything you don't want to lose. Just in case the install goes badly, for whatever reason, make sure you have another copy of all your personal files and anything else you would be sorry to never see again.

[edit] Installation
After downloading, checking and burning the ISO, (or buying the disk(s)) you can simply boot from the CD/DVD to get going. If it's a live CD, you can use Mandriva straight from the CD and get used to it, and make sure it works on your hardware. You can then start the install from the desktop icon. If it's an install disk, you'll be guided through the install process to make choices on language, configuration, software to install and so on.
